Primary to Secondary School Transition
At St. Bricin’s College, we are committed to ensuring every student feels confident, informed, and supported as they move from primary to secondary school. Our transition programme helps students become familiar with school life before they begin and supports them as they settle into their new environment.
All incoming students receive a Transition Booklet, developed by our staff, providing practical information about school routines, subjects, supports, and daily life.
Before starting in September, students visit the school to experience a range of subjects, meet staff, and become familiar with the school environment. We also work closely with primary schools to gather information on each student’s strengths, needs, and learning style, allowing appropriate supports, including SEN supports, to be put in place where necessary.
To support students socially, we operate our Big Brother Big Sister Programme, where junior students are paired with senior student mentors who provide guidance, encouragement, and support throughout the year.
Students also participate in a First Year Fun Day, featuring team-building activities, games, and opportunities to develop friendships. The day includes welcome sessions for both students and parents, ensuring everyone feels informed, supported, and connected from the very beginning.
